Butoh weekend workshop
with Yael Karavan
at St Richard's Church, The Crossway, Hollingdean, Brighton BN1 7BW
26th - 27th April   |   11.30 am - 5 pm

Butoh is an avant garde dance philosophy/method, created in Japan at the end of the 1950s by Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno.
It is not a technique but rather a method and an approach to dance which stems from within and is thus connecting us to our essence, nature, the universe and the cycles of life & death.

The main elements that will be explored are metamorphoses, dance through imagery, presence, awareness and the tension between opposites. The aim is to free the body from its mundane preconceived set of gestures and movements and thus allowing us to access a deeper and more authentic essence of movement and archetypal expression.

"Again and again we are reborn. It is not enough simply to be born of the mother's womb. Many births are necessary. Be reborn always and everywhere. Again and again." Tatsumi Hijikata

Price: £60 early bird by the 20th of April and £70 afterwards.
For more info and registration: info@yaelkaravan.com

The location is a bit less central than last time but will allow us to work outdoors as well as indoors in a quiet environment and in a big spacious hall.
You can get there by bus no. 50 (15mins) from Brighton station or from St. Peters church – get off at William Moon Lodge from where it is 1 minute walk to the Church Hall.
